Fundamental physics covers foundational topics in the field including general concepts such as gravity, light, fundamentals of physical observations and measurements, the scientific method and experiment. Fundamental physics also covers the following sub-fields of Physics: dynamics of motion, kinematics, classical mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.

Classical mechanics is the sub-field of physics that deals with the behaviors of macroscopic objects (as opposed to atomic and sub-atomic particles). Projectiles, machines and parts of it, astronomical objects such as planets, and its satellites, stars and galaxies. One distinct characteristic of classical mechanics is that unlike the more advanced and complex physics topics such as Quantum Mechanics, it produces very accurate results. Classical mechanics however can only go so far in explaining phenomenon in our physical world. For example, special relativity is needed to augment it in dealing with the physics of objects moving in high velocity, while general relativity enhances it to explain gravitation in deeper levels.

Electromagnetism is the sub-field of physics that deals with electricity and magnetism and how these two concepts are related. This sub-field started when the physicist Orsted accidentally discovered that electric current produces magnetic fields.
